ABOUT THE AUDITOR
Jill A. Thompson, a life long resident of Athens County, was born at The Sheltering Arms Hospital in Athens, Ohio and what is now known as O’Bleness Memorial Hospital. Jill grew up on a large farm in Alexander Township where she learned the value of a dollar and the importance of hard work. Her parents and two older brothers primarily raised Hereford cattle and also had a sizeable sheep herd in addition to pigs, chickens, goats and other animals. She graduated from Alexander High School and furthered her education at Ohio University graduating from the School of Business in 1992. Jill Thompson worked as an Administrative Assistant in her family retail business, as a student assistant at Alden Library and also gained valuable experience working at Hocking Valley Bank while attending Ohio University. Following graduation Thompson began her employment in the Athens County Auditor’s office under the supervision of former County Auditor’s Pete Couladis and David Lovett. Thompson was appointed on October 17, 2000 to the position of Auditor by the Republican Central Committee and was elected by a vote of the citizens to a four-year term in November of 2002 and again in 2006. Athens County Auditor Jill Thompson has served on either the Legislative or Executive Committee of the County Auditor's Association of Ohio (CAAO) since 2001 and is extremely active in areas of State Legislature and working with County Auditors statewide. The CAAO was formed in 1867 and includes all 88 Ohio County Auditor's. It was established to promote and protect the interests of taxpayers of Ohio and to improve the administration of county government. Thompson currently serves on the Conference Planning/Education and Support Services/Public Relations (Chair) Committees of the CAAO. The President of the CAAO also appointed Thompson to the Ohio Council of County Officials as a representative of the Auditors Association for a term of two years. Auditor Thompson was elected by the Southeast District of the County Auditor's Association of Ohio to serve as Southeast District President for the years 2003 and 2004. Thompson has received awards for her excellence in Financial Reporting from both the Government Finance Officers Association and the Auditor of State each year she has served. In addition, she received the CAAO Auditor’s Award for exceeding 100 hours of education during her term of office in 2005. Thompson has received over 250 hours of continuing education over the course of her employment as County Auditor. Thompson is an active member of the Athens A.M. Rotary Club, member of the Farm Bureau, the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce, the Green and White Club, a past President of The Plains PTO and has also served on the Board of the United Seniors of Athens County. Thompson was appointed to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail Commission in 2005 as a representative for the Athens County Judges and continues to serve as an active commission member. Thompson is currently serving as Chairwoman of the Correction Commission of Southeastern Ohio. As County Auditor, Jill also serves on the following Athens County Government Committees:
Jill Thompson has been married to her husband Trevis for over 15 years. They currently reside in The Plains with their extremely active three boys, Trent, Lukas and Seth. Trevis and Jill attend Christ Community Wesleyan Church in Albany Ohio and are active in their children’s activities which include hunting, guitar, karate, basketball and baseball to name a few. |
